Improving Practice Questionnaire
The IPQ is a useful, validated patient feedback tool, authored by CFEP.
Its purpose is to help general practices and their clinical and
administration staff to monitor and improve the quality of their services.
The IPQ can also be run at Individual Clinician level. It is extensively
used by doctors and other clinicians such as practice nurses, nurse
practitioners and other healthcare professionals.
The IPQ is fully administered for you as an exit survey. It fits neatly
onto one A4 sheet (both sides) and contains questions which focus on issues
about the practice, the clinician and the staff.
The IPQ also allows patients to write their comments about the services
and care that they received. We pass these comments on to you in full.
The IPQ is simple to run. We send all survey material direct to the
practice. When you wish to run the survey, a receptionist simply hands the
questionnaire to consecutive patients and asks them to complete it and put
it into the ballot box provided. Once all questionnaires have been
completed, you return them to us for analysis.
Practice Results include all written comments, summary tables (with
demographics) and graphs, including benchmark scores derived from other
practices.
You also receive complementary support materials and help in completing
PE6. Individual Clinicians get patient feedback on their
interpersonal skills, together with benchmarks scores from other clinicians.
Individual clinician results can help GPs prepare for and undertake
appraisal and revalidation. (See MSF /360)
